I was rather chuffed when the wonderful Veronique Chevalier, who had kindly let me screen her film, Sprocky Spittoon, at Wild Wild West Con III, contacted me out of the blue to see if I'd be interested to sit on a steampunk panel at San Diego Comic-Fest. I leapt at the opportunity and offered a mini-film festival too, to ensure that they were getting value for money. The organisers were happy for me to do and so I suddenly found myself expanding to California. Without a lot of programming time being available to me, I put together two steampunk sets, one that was entirely family friendly and one that wasn't. Both played well, but the latter got an especially good response, not only because Steve Ziolkowski, the director of 1873: The Insidious Intrigue, would be there the next day to join our panel. |
