#48: Wild Wild West Steampunk Convention 13

#48

Well, this was an experience! Wild Wild West Steampunk Convention 13 was my eleventh Wild Wild West Con and its theme was Steampunk Halloween, so I had plenty of opportunity to get dark.

I programmed a mixture of films, because I'm simply running out of new material. There aren't many people making steampunk short films any more and, as always, not all of them are great. Now that AI is widely available, that's the go to tool for creating this sort of thing and, while some of the art is pretty, not one of them is good enough to screen in a Roadshow set, even if we discount all the ethical concerns, which I wouldn't.

So Friday's set was made up of entirely old material (previously screened at Wild Wild West Cons 3, 4 and 6), while Saturday's set was all brand new and Sunday's set included a couple of repeats and three films that I've screened elsewhere, like at Gaslight Steampunk Expo, but not at Wild Wild West Con.

And I'm not going to tell you what most of that material was because the convention was closed down by the Yaqui Pascal tribal council for medical reasons (best guess: norovirus outbreak) on Saturday afternoon, after the better half's fashion show that I MC but before my film set. So nobody got to see the new material, which I'll now shift to Wild Wild West Con 13 in 2026 instead.
