The Steampunk Communitea Weekend was a one off virtual steampunk convention organised by well known Tucson steampunk personality Madame Askew and held on her Discord channel from 9th to 11th April, 2021. The reasoning was that the regular steampunk convention in state, Wild Wild West Steampunk Convention, had cancelled early for 2021 because of COVID-19 and was skipping a year with the goal of returning in 2022. With the prospect of nothing in the steampunk vein happening in Arizona in 2021, Madame set up the Steampunk Communitea Weekend. However, Wild Wild West Con then decided to host a virtual event too, on Zoom in their regular March slot, so we ended up with two virtual steampunk events for the price of free. Because this was a virtual event and the audience was likely to include farflung people who hadn't attended any of the conventions I'd presented sets at in person, I put together a sort of greatest hits package for the steampunk genre. I'd screened everything before at other events. |
